Students may be placed at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (Durban), King Edward VIII Hospital
(Durban) or Greys Hospital (Pietermaritzburg).

Neurology
Students will participate in the Discipline’s activities at either Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (Durban) or Greys Hospital (Pietermaritzburg).
Activities
They will also accompany our neurologists to other hospitals as part of the outreach programme. They will accompany clinicians and registrars in their daily practice, clerking patients, attending ward rounds, attending clinics and even accompanying them on call occasionally at least during the day. Urology
Visiting students will rotate between St Aidan’s Hospital and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. They will shadow registrars and medical officers and will participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics and operative theatre sessions.

Pulmonology and Critical Care
Students will be exposed to bedside and clinic pulmonolgy as well as basic investigations such as chest and lung function testing.

Nuclear Medicine
Visiting students will spend a month in each of three departments at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, King Edward VIII Hospital and Addington Hospital. They will join the daily academic program via Zoom during the rotations at ADH and KEH and should be exposed to all aspects of nuclear medicine (Hotlab, image acquisition, General Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and targeted radionuclide therapy).

Orthopaedics
Students will experience supervised informal workplace-based learning in the orthopaedic clinic, wards and theatre and will participate in departmental academic meetings. Placements are available at a number of hsopitals in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Empangeni and Port Shepstone.
