Psychiatry Workshops
M.MED. PART I PSYCHIATRY COURSE : 2012
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This course is intended to ensure that candidates are grounded in basic clinical psychiatry. It supplements the Psychology, Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology courses and covers aspects and topics that could not be integrated into these basic sciences. At the end of this course, students should have an adequate knowledge of:
- The important psychiatric disorders with regards to
- Clinical features
- Diagnosis, and
- Approach to Management (detailed psychopharmacology is covered in Neurophysiology)
- The Mental Health Care Act, and
- Basic Medical Ethics
COURSE FORMAT
- The course will be presented in a series of Saturday morning interactive workshops.
- Each topic shall be presented by a registrar under the supervision of a consultant.
- Each presentation should include illustrative case examples and questions for discussion, which will account for at least one third of the allocated time. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation should be emailed to Dr Madigoe at least 2 weeks before the workshop.
- All registrars are required to prepare themselves to actively participate in each workshop by reading up on each topic in advance.
