Vision and Mission
It is our main aim to provide the people of KZN with comprehensive Neurosurgical care encompassing all tiers – from primary through to tertiary care, train Neurosurgical specialist of the future, and contribute to the development of Neurosurgery in KZN/South Africa and internationally through research of a high standard
The unit consist of doctors, nurses and allied medical professionals, all of whom contribute to the overall care of the patients.
We look to the future with optimism and hope to achieve the following
1. Our paramount goal will be neurosurgical care of a high standard –
irrespective of religion; race; gender; sexual orientation; social standing;
political allegiance or type of disease
2. Appropriate access to the people of KZN; incorporating existing
infrastructure and referral base
3. Education of both medical staff and the general population, so that
Neurosurgical problems are better appreciated and managed
appropriately. This includes outreach programmes to our many referral
hospitals.
4. Train competent doctors, nurses and allied professionals to a high
international standard.
5. Strive to improve the overall Neurosurgical knowledge on the continent,
as well as the rest of the world. This would best be achieved by active
research, which is one of the strengths of our department
